Southport – To Playoff or not to playoff?

So last update I finished with a few games to go, just sitting out of the playoffs. The aim was to secure a playoff place.

A loss against Kettering was not good for a start. It put me on a bit of a downer, and I felt we may just not make it this year. Next up was Wimbledon. A tough game, They were also fighting for Playoffs. I didn’t expect to win this one, but Rezgane scores his first goal for us and wins us 3 points. Delighted! A Draw came next and I felt something needed changed. We have been struggling to put our chances away. I decided to mix it up a bit. I stuck Nade, Or as I call him Nadders, up top. With 6 Goals in 4 games. It pushed us forward. We won 6 games in a row, and had secured our playoff place. We were 3 points off 1st place, but with a worse goal difference. So playoffs it was. Nobody expected us to be where we are. Even I had written us off at times.

Heres is the important Screenshots:

Southport FC – The Journey Continues

So here’s the next installment in my career, I got rid of a couple of players and brought in a couple of youths and a few first teamers, I brought in a new goalkeeper, but my old goalie seems to be performing better. Forfana is attracting a lot of interest.

I managed to get to the third round of the FA trophy, but Grimsby knocked me out. Would of liked to of gone a little bit further, but we passed our expectation. We went on a bit of a decline, and it has seen our league position drop out of the promotion/playoff places. We have 10 games left. I think the title has gone. So playoffs is the main target now. A vital draw against promotion rivals Mansfield has seen a bit of a climb of late. I do have Wimbledon coming up which will be a huge game. Here is my current league position and my fixtures/results since the last update.

FM2011: The Journey begins…

Hey guys,

Sorry its been a while since an update, but its time to kick off with my current Southport Career on FM2011. Before I start, I’d like to say My FM ability is limited. I’m not the greatest at the game, but I do enjoy it. I don’t use any scout tools like genie scout nor do I use editors. I may sign  some dud players, I may sign some stars. As long as I keep my team above water then that’s all I’m going to aim for each season.

I’ve chosen Southport as it’s a close local team to my self, and i fancied starting from the bottom. I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take Southport. I appreciate all comments, positive or negative so feel free to leave your thoughts.

So lets start with some transfer that I’ve brought in and released.

So my squad looks like this, I’ve shown the CA and PA thanks to my assistant, Some of those 1 stars do perform well for me, and I tend to use them mainly as backup until i can free up the wage bill a bit in january.

Squad

Squad

Will Grocett has been a key player for me, and is currently my only international player, representing northern Ireland under 19s. I still have a few areas I’d like to improve greatly on. I have a lack of depth in the middle so need to build on that. Also my goalkeeper aint the greatest and I’m on the lookout for a much better one. Ashley Winn, has scored some good goals for me. Him and Grocett form a great midfield. Both with plenty of years in front of them.

Here are my pre-season results. We almost hung onto a draw against villa and beating west ham reserves was a big boost for the squad. Mixed bag of results but overall i was happy.

And these are my results up to now. Some big win, some losses that we should have won. A run of 14 unbeaten in all competitions has been amazing. We were written down as relegation candidates and we are now lying in 2nd place. We took Bristol back to their ground in a FA cup replay but they were too strong.

Here is the league table after 22 games. Still plenty to play for, but we are in a stong position and what started out as hovering midtable, we have climbed up the table in recent weeks, and may even challenge for the title.

Thats all for now, I’ll add a new post once I’m in a few more months. January Transfer Window is coming up shortly, So might add a few more faces, but I don’t think I’ll change too much as it’s clearly working at the moment.

Cheers, and hopefully you enjoyed the read 🙂

FIFA 11: 8 Nations

With only 5 days to go to one of the most anticipated FIFA Clubs Tournaments in many months. I conducted the live draw yesterday evening. The draw would determine what nations would play in which group. 2 Groups would include 2 UK nations and 2 EURO nations in each group.

At 6PM GMT, I got home from work, I loaded up my photoshop and created a simple graphic that I would use to show the groups, I got my screen recorded set up and I got a couple of songs related to football nations ready to play throughout the draw.

At about 7:05PM, the stream eventually started. The UK teams were drawn, Scotland and Ireland was drawn to group 1, England and Wales into group 2. The draw generator went off-line before the Euro teams could be drawn, but fortunately I used a second draw generator to determine the final groups. Here is the final draw.

A tournament, that i’m really looking forward too. 5 days and counting!

Thoughts of a Kopite: Chelsea v Liverpool

First things first… YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! GET IN!

After Saturdays amazingly wierd day of football, 3 points for the reds would be that little cherry on the top of icing. Fernando Torres scoring would of been the burnt bit on the underside. It wasn’t the latter in this case.

Kenny got the tactics spot on, This new system that we seen against Stoke in mid week seemed to just counter react against anything Chelsea threw at us. Looking at the stats without watching the game would give the assumption Chelsea were the better side and at times they were, but they were unable to break us down. We took our chance, Scored it, Defended it. The basics of football really. Goals win games. Not shots off target 😉

Torres is obviously the biggest talking point, making his debut against his former club and playing like the so called ‘old Torres’ not the ‘original Torres’ was a joy for every Liverpool fan. The lad has incredible talent, but since World Cup 2010, that talent seems to of faded away. I’m sure we will see the best of him in a blue shirt eventually.  All the best Nando, but 50M for a dud, is starting to look like we got the better of the deal!

Meireles has got a bit of oomph about him since Kenny has come in, and he is starting to become one of buys of the season ( probably until suarez of carroll get on the pitch) but the longer he keeps this form going the better for us.

4 wins 4 clean sheets 12 points, you can’t really complain about that. Hopefully we can have a couple of 5’s in them stats come Saturday!
